The Denver Athletics Hurdles Camp offers a comprehensive training experience for middle school through masters athletes of all abilities, from beginner to advanced. Participants will delve into the philosophy, science, mechanics, and strategy of hurdling through a combination of classroom sessions, speed and strength work, and technique drills. The camp aims to educate athletes through instruction and experience, while also highlighting methodologies from local college coaches. The program focuses on developing skills such as lead-leg and trail-leg mechanics, takeoff distance and touchdown position, rhythm and stride patterning, acceleration to the first hurdle, sprint mechanics between hurdles, and clearance efficiency. Athletes will also gain confidence and learn to attack the barriers effectively. The camp culminates with an entry into a USATF Meet on the final day.
A typical day includes classroom sessions, speed and strength training, and technique drills, with specific focus on 100/110 High Hurdle techniques (speed, power, 3-stepping) on Day 1 and 300 Intermediate Hurdle focus on Day 2.
